Tour overview

This journey will guide you through the most breathtaking and majestic landscapes of the karst plateau, situated at the northernmost frontier of the country. While many have heard of the Nho Que River and Tu San Alley, and some may have even cruised these waters by motorboat, our expedition offers a distinctly different and more authentic approach.

Instead of relying on noisy engines, you will actively paddle a kayak downstream along the Nho Que River, making your way from Dong Van to Meo Vac. You will navigate an emerald river that winds gracefully through a stunning natural wilderness, perfectly framed by towering mountains veiled in year-round clouds and vibrant terraced fields cascading right down to the water's edge.

Day 1: Ha Giang City – Dong Van – White Cliff – Tu San Alley – Riverside Camping

05:00 Rise early and board the vehicle to begin our journey into the heart of the Dong Van Karst Plateau. We will make our first stop in Quan Ba to enjoy a hearty breakfast, featuring the region's famous and flavorful Trang Kim pho (noodle soup), before continuing our scenic mountain drive to Dong Van.

11:00 Upon reaching Dong Van town, the group will settle in for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, sampling authentic regional dishes.

13:00 Transfer to the legendary White Cliff (Vách Đá Trắng), the starting point of our spectacular 7km trekking route. This trail is an absolute highlight, offering sweeping, panoramic views that embrace the emerald waters of the Nho Que River, the towering Tu San Alley, and the awe-inspiring Ma Pi Leng Pass winding far below. 15:30 From Ta Lang pier, we will launch our SUPs (Stand-Up Paddleboards) and navigate through the magnificent Tu San Alley, renowned as one of Southeast Asia's deepest canyons. Take your time to paddle, soak in the dramatic landscape, and capture incredible photos. We will then continue paddling gently along the Nho Que River until we reach our exclusive riverside campsite. Upon arrival, you will receive your tent, have time to freshen up, and relax while taking in the pristine, million-dollar views from the camp. This exceptionally beautiful valley is nestled within the rocky plateau and is home to around 70 households, primarily belonging to the Hmong, Lo Lo, and Hoa ethnic groups. Here, you will visit a traditional, century-old Hmong house that famously served as the cinematic backdrop for the renowned Vietnamese film "The Story of Pao".

12:00 After a leisurely walk exploring the village and interacting with the locals, we will drive back to Dong Van for lunch.

13:00 Following our meal, the group will explore the historical Vuong Family Mansion (often referred to as the Hmong King's Palace). This unique architectural masterpiece blends European, Chinese, and traditional Hmong styles. Afterward, we will begin our descent back toward Ha Giang City.

Hence the customer is asked to read and sign the Exclude all Liability form before departing. Find the form below and read it carefully.

                  Release Of Liability Form.

4. Notes on the trekking route

● On the day of SUP/Kayak paddling, we will start paddling from Ta Lang to the camping spot and through Tu San Gorge. The paddling distance is 4km and downstream. When we paddle through Tu San Gorge, depending on the weather and season of the year, there may be quite strong headwinds, however, Tu San Gorge is only about 200m long so it is not too difficult to overcome.

● Before starting to paddle, the tour guide will instruct you on how to paddle and notes on safety and the route. You need to wear a life jacket and wear a full leash. For those paddling SUP for the first time, you should not stand directly on the SUP from the starting point. After starting about 1km -2km, if you feel more comfortable and confident with the water flow, you can start paddling standing up.

● When paddling on the lake, you need to pay attention to avoid obstacles such as tree branches, rocks, etc. Paddling close to the shore and watching out for motorboats circulating on the lake.

● We will have a motorboat escorting us throughout the rowing time. In case you want to use a rowing boat, please inform the tour guide.

● Note, if you know how to swim and have a lot of experience rowing, you can take off your life jacket and tie it on the SUP but absolutely do not remove the leg straps.

On the 2nd day, we will walk about 5-6 km along the Divine Cliff. This walking route is quite easy and has the most majestic scenery in Vietnam. The path is not difficult but you need to wear sports shoes or sandals (you cannot wear flip-flops).

5. Camping at Nho Que River:

● Umove Adventure's campsite is located on the Nho Que River with a beautiful view of Tu San Canyon. We use double tents with warm blankets and mattresses. At the campsite, there is hot water for bathing and clean toilets.

6. Food & drinks

● The meals on the tour are quite diverse and have many "local identities". If you are on a diet or vegetarian, you need to inform UA's management in advance so that we can prepare suitable food for you. In case you have special dietary requirements that we cannot meet (for health, medical, religious reasons, etc.), we recommend that you prepare your own food.

● Drinking water will be provided on the vehicle and while paddling. Umove Adventure encourages customers to limit the use of single-use plastic and nylon products, so we recommend that you bring a water bottle (reusable type) to fill the large bottle provided by us.

● Alcoholic beverages are not allowed when paddling SUP, kayaking or trekking. Alcoholic beverages and soft drinks are not included in meals.

7. Protecting the environment together

● Umove Adventure supports and practices Leave No Trace principles in each program and outdoor activities itself. We also encourage our customers and partners to apply to Leave No Trace principles when traveling in the outdoor environment. See details about the Leave No Trace tại đây

● In order to limit the use of single-use plastic, Umove Adventure encourages each of us to prepare for ourselves a bottle of water with a 1L capacity for daily water refilling.

● On the tour, tourists comply with the instructions and regulations on environmental protection at the destination.

8. Medical assistance

● If you have cardiovascular disease or bone and joint diseases (knees, ankles, shoulder joints, etc.), you should consult your doctor before deciding to join the trip.

● The tour guide will carry a basic first aid kit. If you have any medical problems that require medication, you should bring your own medication.

Q&A
1. What is the best time to go on this program?

Ha Giang is beautiful in every season, but each season has its unique highlights. If you go during the Lunar New Year, you will see peach and plum blossoms like in other regions of the Northeast and Northwest. From October to December, the buckwheat flowers bloom, covering the fields in Meo Vac and Dong Van. March is the season for beautiful red silk cotton flowers. Additionally, there are white and yellow mustard flowers blooming in winter. The summer months from April to September are very suitable for SUP and kayak tours on the Nho Que River. Therefore, it’s hard to say which season is the best to visit Ha Giang.

2. What age is this program suitable for children?

UA recommends that children aged 10 and older can participate in this program with their parents or adults.

3. Can I join the tour if I am going alone?

This is a group tour, so you can join the tour by yourself. However, the minimum number of participants for the tour to proceed is 8 people. 5. Can I join this program if I have no trekking experience?

This outing has a moderate difficulty level (6/10) and is suitable for most people, including those without much trekking experience. 10. What about restrooms and bathing during the trip?

At the campsite, there will be hot water for bathing and clean restrooms for customers' personal needs.

If you want to rent a private tent, depending on the timing of the tour and if we have private tents available, Umove Adventure is willing to arrange a private tent for you at no extra charge. However, if there are not enough tents and we need to rent additional tents, there will be an extra fee (which will be communicated to you at the time of booking).

12. If I am tired while kayaking and can’t paddle anymore, can I stop?
